Where Magazine recently published an article by Tim Pawsey, one of Vancouver’s leading food critics called “Great Steaks in Vancouver” and, not only was The Shore Club named the top choice but two other epicmedia clients Gotham Steakhouse and Hy’s Encore, were named in the top 3.
All three of these superb restaurants are relatively new epicmedia clients and we’re looking forward to raising their media profile reminding everyone of their superb food, service and surroundings. Watch for lots of news coming soon like The Shore Club participating in Dine Out Vancouver for the first time, a series of events throughout the Playhouse Wine Festival and the upcoming 5th Anniversary of The Shore Club in June.

One of the neatest things about being a small PR agency is the wide variety of different types of work I get to do during the course of an average month. Lately, it seems that I’ve been doing a fair number of media tours in different Vancouver neighbourhoods, but particularly Gastown. One of those tours was with well-known food blogger Matt Armendariz of MattBites.com on a couple of of different legs of his food tour around Vancouver.
Matt was great company for a couple of days of touring and I got to take him to a whole bunch of my favourite places in Vancouver: Two Chefs and a Table, Big Lou’s Butcher Shop, Cork & Fin, the Oakwood Canadian Bistro, Flying Pig, Boneta and more besides. What’s even cooler is that one person has the chance to win this tour through the Canadian Tourism Commission and Travel & Leisure Magazine.

. . . since they got a plug in the latest issue of New York Magazine. Writers from the Big Apple are notoriously hard to impress, but Vancouver’s food scene has even drawn glances from that side of the Continent.
The article, titled “Eat Your Way Through Vancouver” was a survey of some of the best places to eat in Vancouver and even though they got some stuff wrong (seriously, when are people going to realize that C isn’t close to the best seafood place in Vancouver?), they got lots of stuff right. Alongside the eating, drinking and shopping tips, they suggested a few places to stay, including the Granville Island Hotel.
If you haven’t been to the Granville Island Hotel recently, it’s well worth the visit: the rooms have gone through a long renovation process, the location is unbeatable and their restaurant, the Dockside Restaurant and Brewing Company has gone through a similar renovation including a completely new patio and a rebuilt beer program from their in-house microbrewery. I recommend the hibiscus-infused Jamaica Lager and the Railspur IPA.

The Richmond News wasn’t the only newspaper to recently cover Two Chefs and a Table. UK’s Sunday Independent surveyed a group of restaurant Worldwide who focus on locally-sourced foods. The list included restaurants from as far away as Tasmania, Beirut, Beijing, Gothenburg and London along with Two Chefs who were noted for their five-course tasting menus “which might include delights such as grilled British Columbian boar chop.”
Ironically enough, Big Lou’s Butcher Shop, owned by Two Chefs and a Table got a rare shipment of wild boar just last week so watch the Two Chefs and a Table for wild boar dishes coming soon.

Since they opened over three years ago, Karl Gregg and Allan Bosomworth have done great things out of their intimate 30-seat Two Chefs and a Table bistro. Along with serving one of the best brunches in town and feeding lunch to most of Railtown, they’ve built a reputation for superb dinner events and one of the City’s best dinner tasting menus.
Perhaps most amazing has been the catering operation that they have built out of such a small space. From the backstage food at the 2009 Junos to retail openings and deadline pushes at games companies, Two Chefs have fed thousands of people their brand of locally-sourced delicious food.
Recently, they added a third store to their operation with the opening of Two Chefs Richmond, a new location which in one fell swoop, provides a huge commissary kitchen for catering and prep work, a large room for special events and a way for Richmonders to enjoy a taste of Gastown’s food scene without making the trek downtown. The LA Times Magazine recently did a feature called Northern Exposure which featured their picks for the best places to eat, drink, shop and stay in Vancouver. It was a proud moment for the St. Regis Hotel and the St. Regis Hotel was included on the very short list of places to stay in Vancouver.
They were smart enough to recruit some local knowledge in the form of Vancouver writers Joann Blain and Mia Stainsby who did the picking and writing for this article. Even though half the fun of articles like this is arguing over what should and shouldn’t have made the list, their picks are a great starting point for any visitor to the city.

Vancouver’s growing food cart scene has seen two years of rapid growth thanks to a unique program of licensing which includes a committee of experts who review each application. It’s led to an explosion of great food on the streets which has started to gain international recognition.
This summer, I had the opportunity to take Kevin Gould, a British food writer from the Guardian on a bicycle-powered tour of Vancouver’s food carts. We started at the Granville Island Hotel where he stayed during his time in Vancouver and then rode along the seawall past Go Fish and over to the legendary Japadog on Burrard St. We ate our way up and down the length of the city stopping in at carts like Cartel Taco, Fresh Local Wild and others.With his interest in locally-sourced food, we also took the time to stop off at Big Lou’s Butcher Shop where he

While many food carts are on hiatus or reduced schedules for the winter, there’s rumour of some food cart events in the works for the new year. It sounds as though they’ll include multiple carts in one covered location–should be amazing and well worth watching local food media and blogs for news as it’s announced.
